Course Description
Students in this course will build upon what they learned and produced in Journalism 1, Journalism 2, and Journalism 3, and will demonstrate an increased level of leadership in their positions as “veteran editors.” They will take the lead in producing the online and print versions of The Lancer Spirit. Designed to function as a workshop enhancing students’ writing and leadership skills, this course will provide students with the opportunity to focus their learning. This course will emphasize critical and analytical thinking through management, organization, and production of the school publication. In addition to writing their own stories, students will help guide new editors as they critique, revise, and edit the stories of reporters and other editors. They will also design pages with stories, graphics, and photographs using programs like InDesign® and Photoshop® while also helping new editors learn these programs. Students will also learn how to finance print production through the sale of advertising. They will produce a variety of written, visual, and multimedia content for www.lancerspiritonline.com while also helping new editors navigate the website. This course can be taken simultaneously with other English classes, but not in lieu of any required Freshmen, Sophomore and Junior English classes. |
